The Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) is responsible for the keeping and maintaining of registers of the pure bred dog breeds registered in Australia.
There is a full listing of the recognised breeds in Australia. If the breed of dog you are wanting to purchase is not listed on this website, then you are purchasing a crossbred dog. A number of "designer" names have become very popular over the past 15-20 years ie: cavoodles, spoodles; shoodles; etc. These designer names are made up by the breeder who has decided to breed with two dogs of different breeds.
