Where to look when you want to buy a puppy?
There are lots of places you can purchase a puppy from. The local newspaper; the local pet shop and there is the vast array of websites on the internet.
Regardless of where you want to purchase your puppy, there are some important things you need to ask the breeder and/or pet shop owner to ensure that you are getting all the information you need. See the "Questions to Ask" page to help you with the right questions to ask to get the right answers.

Dogzonline - Dogzonline website is dedicated to the purebred registered (with their State Controlling Body) dog breeders of Australia and New Zealand. All breeders advertising on this site must be registered breeders with their State Controlling Body (ie: Dogs Queensland; Dogs New South Wales; etc) See the "Registered Breeders" page for more information about what a registered breeder is. http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/puppies.asp
Gumtree - anyone who has a puppy for sale can advertise on Gumtree. There are no restrictions on this site, so you need to make sure you ask lots of questions to ensure you are getting a quality puppy for your family. You will find breeders of crossbred; unregistered purebred and registered purebred puppies available for sale.
Breeders own websites - many breeders have their own websites where they promote their kennels and you can often see photos of their current dogs and their previous progeny.
State Controlling Bodies - (Dogs Queensland, Dogs NSW, Dogs Victoria; Dogs ACT; Dogs Tasmania; Dogs NT; Dogs WA; Dogs SA) all have their breeder directories available on their websites. These listings are for Registered Purebred Breeders. Only breeders who wish to advertise on these listings will be found here.
Breed Clubs - There are a number of breed clubs across the country where members are involved in the promotion of their respective breeds. These breed clubs may also be able to assist you with enquiries regarding responsible registered breeders. A listing of affiliated breed clubs is accessible from the State Controlling Bodies websites (see the Links to ANKC and State Controlling Bodies page)
Remember that if you want to have a continued relationship with the breeder for ongoing advice and support, this needs to be a relationship of trust and honesty.
If a breeder states that they are a registered breeder but is selling unregistered pups, they are not conducting their affairs in accordance with their State Controlling Body. It is important to see proof of their membership as they are not permitted to sell unregistered puppies. (See this page for details).
facebook pages and groups - There are lots of pages and groups on facebook. These are developed to easily interact with new puppy owners and the community to promote their dogs.
